Power Saving Bonus Outreach Program

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria and Good Shepherd have partnered to help community members apply for the State Government’s $250 Power Saving Bonus.

This one-off $250 payment is designed to help ease the cost of living for eligible Victorian households during the pandemic.

Applications for the Power Saving Bonus are made online, however we understand that many people in our communities either lack access to devices or internet, or lack confidence and skills in using technology.

To ensure no one gets left behind, Neighbourhood Houses across the state are ready to help people complete their Power Saving Bonus application.

Frequently asked questions Find a Neighbourhood House that can help you

When does the next round of the $250 Power Saving Bonus commence?

The next round of the $250 Power Saving Bonus is scheduled to commence on 24 March 2023. For the most up-to-date information on the $250 Power Saving Bonus visit the Victorian Energy Compare website.

When does the current round of the $250 Power Saving Bonus finish?

We would encourage anyone who hasn’t yet applied for the $250 Bonus to apply before the next round commences on 24 March 2023. This means the current round of the PSB will close 23.59pm 23 March 2023. The next round opening 24 March 2023 will be available to all eligible Victorian households, including households that have already received a payment through previous rounds of the program.

Who is eligible for the next round of the $250 Power Saving Bonus?

When the next round of the $250 Power Saving program commences on 24 March 2023, the eligibility for the program will remain the same. To be eligible for a $250 Bonus, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a Victorian residential energy consumer (i.e. have a residential electricity account).
  • You must be the account holder
  • Only one payment is available per household

What is the $250 Power Saving Bonus?

The $250 Power Saving Bonus is a one-off $250 payment for Victorian households to help ease cost-of-living pressures and encourage them to compare energy offers and save money.

Who is eligible for the Power Saving Bonus?

To be eligible, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • You must be a Victorian residential energy consumer (i.e. have a residential electricity account)
  • You must be the account holder

How will it be paid to me?

When you submit your application online, you will be able to choose between receiving your payment via EFT (electronic transfer into your bank account) or cheque.

How many people per household can apply?

Only one payment is available to each household - the account holder.

When can eligible households apply for the $250 Power Saving Bonus?

The next round of the $250 Power Saving Bonus is scheduled to commence on 24 March 2023.

I am a concession card holder who received the previous Power Saving Bonus before 1 July 2022. Can I apply again?

Yes you can.

How do I apply for the bonus?

Applications are made online. If you do not have access to, or are uncomfortable using technology, get in contact with one of our Power Saving Bonus Outreach Providers.

What do I need for the application process?

When you come to us to submit your application, there are a few things you need to bring with you:

  • a copy of a recent electricity bill
  • your ‘NMI’ number (this is located on your bill and is typically a 10 or 11 digit number)

Be sure to keep a copy of your NMI and your application reference number as you may need this information for further communications about your application.

How long does it take to receive the Power Saving Bonus?

If you meet the eligibility and documentation requirements, you should receive your $250 payment via Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) within two to three weeks of submission. If you request payment via cheque, this should be received within four weeks.

We appreciate the ongoing support of the Victorian State Government.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Victoria. We pay our respects to their spirits, ancestors, elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members past, present and emerging.

Neighbourhood Houses combat social isolation and loneliness by being accessible, non-threatening and inclusive spaces that welcome people from all walks of life. Everyone is invited, no matter their gender, age, race, sexuality, abilities, culture or religion.
