  1. What we do
  2. Information and advisory services

Information and advisory services

We are committed to keeping our members informed of the latest information available from Government and within the community services sector, and providing practical and strategic advice to our members.

This includes information and advice on:

  • Industrial relations
  • Human resources
  • Governance
  • Financial management
  • Funding opportunities
  • Policy developments

We do this in a number of ways.

Advisory service

We provide a personalised advice and referrals service over the phone and via email should an issue arise at your house that you need guidance and support on.

Weekly e-communications

We communicate to our members regularly. Our highly regarded weekly e-bulletin provides a round-up of the latest:

  • sector news and resources
  • professional development opportunities
  • grant opportunities
  • job vacancies

Resource Library

Our member-only online resource library provides policy and procedural templates and other important resources to promote best-practice, consistency across the sector, and greater efficiency for our houses.

Areas include governance, team management, community development practice, stakeholder engagement, emergency management, and so much more.

Facebook Groups

Our private, member-only Facebook groups are an opportunity for NHVic to share information and engage with members in an immediate way, and encourage networking and the sharing of ideas and resources between members.

You must be a current staff or committee member of a member organisation to join.

The groups are:

  • Member's Group - our general group
  • Finance Group - focusing on financial management, targeted at treasurers, finance officers and bookkeepers
  • Childcare Provider Group - for neighbourhood houses which provide a childcare service
  • Adult Community Education Providers Group - for neighbourhood houses which are Learn Locals and/or RTOs

A community approach to acknowledging unpaid carers

Unpaid carers save the federal government almost $78 billion per year.   Yet, these carers often sacrifice their own wellbeing to ensure the person they love is well cared for.  Kristine Rawlinson, Carers Project Manager at Neighbourhood Houses Victoria, believes that existing carer supports are missing the mark.

We appreciate the ongoing support of the Victorian State Government.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Victoria. We pay our respects to their spirits, ancestors, elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members past, present and emerging.

Neighbourhood Houses combat social isolation and loneliness by being accessible, non-threatening and inclusive spaces that welcome people from all walks of life. Everyone is invited, no matter their gender, age, race, sexuality, abilities, culture or religion.
