Membership
There are three types of membership. Find out the eligibility requirements and annual fees for each category:

Full Membership
Organisations eligible for full membership are:
-
recognised by Neighbourhood Houses Victoria as being a neighbourhood house, learning centre, or neighbourhood house network;
-
not-for-profit community-based, community managed, independently incorporated associations, co-operatives or companies limited by guarantee;
-
located in Victoria
And additionally:
-
support the Statement of Purposes of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria
-
operate in accordance with the Sector Vision, Purpose, Philosophy, Principles and Practice Statements contained in the Neighbourhood Houses and Learning Centres Sector Framework
Associate Membership
Organisations eligible for associate membership include:
-
neighbourhood houses which operate under the auspice of an incorporated not-for-profit non-government organisation or local government authority, and
-
the auspice body supports and recognises a neighbourhood house community based committee or reference group, independent of the auspice body, is responsible for overseeing the neighbourhood house program and functions of the house,
-
the neighbourhood house program maintains its integrity, identity and autonomy separate from the auspice body.

organisations which are not neighbourhood houses or networks but support the neighbourhood house sector
-
organisations in or outside of Victoria
And additionally:

support the Statement of Purposes of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria
-
operate in accordance with the Sector Vision, Purpose, Philosophy, Principles and Practice Statements contained in the Neighbourhood Houses and Learning Centres Sector Framework


Local Government Associate Membership
This membership applies to local government authorities for the council/shire as a whole. It does not apply to individual neighbourhood houses.

The benefits for local councils include:

Customised Data for your LGA[1]: Customised reports providing aggregated data on your local neighbourhood houses including participant numbers, volunteer contributions, employment, income, programs and activities, etc. NHVic can also provide LGAs with similar demographic data on neighbourhood house participants.

Opportunities for joint advocacy: in areas of common interest, such as better resourcing of community infrastructure and the impact of rate capping on our sectors.

Information: Access to the weekly eBulletin with a summary of the latest sector news, grant funding, professional development, job vacancies and upcoming events.

Special offers: include discounted registration fees for the annual NHVic Conference and various training professional development events.
[1] Note: for LGAs that have only one neighbourhood house, for privacy purposes the neighbourhood house must consent to the sharing of their data with their local council before it can be distributed.
Membership Fees
Membership fees are paid annually, determined by the organisation's gross income (Use the figure from the annual report that was current on June 30 2025).
