Neighbourhood House Week

Neighbourhood House Week is 8 – 14 May 2023. The theme is 'Locals connecting Locals'.

Find the resource pack here.

Neighbourhood House Week is an annual national celebration, recognising the important contribution over 1,000 neighbourhood houses make in local communities across Australia.

In 2022 it took place from Monday 9 to Sunday 15 May with the theme 'Building resilience by bringing people together'.

The theme recognises the important role Neighbourhood Houses will play in a post-lockdown environment, as Victoria aims to re-emerge and rebuild a harmonious and resilient community. After the lockdowns which saw so many people feeling vulnerable and isolated, as a sector, we look to rebuild those social connections that many people lost, building stronger and more resilient communities than ever before.

Watch the launch event

We hosted a pre-launch event for Neighbourhood House Week, centered around the theme 'Building resilience by bringing people together'.

This conversation between our former CEO Nicole Battle, Mental Health Parliamentary Secretary Steve Dimopoulos MP, social justice advocate Fiona Patten MP and Ending Loneliness Together Chair Dr Michelle Lim, covered the crippling impacts of loneliness in our communities, and the steps forward we need to take as a society - at all levels - to end loneliness.

Some of the fun that happened...

Hundreds of events and activities took place all across country at Neighbourhood Houses to celebrate their communities. Here's just a few examples:

We appreciate the ongoing support of the Victorian State Government.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Victoria. We pay our respects to their spirits, ancestors, elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members past, present and emerging.

Neighbourhood Houses combat social isolation and loneliness by being accessible, non-threatening and inclusive spaces that welcome people from all walks of life. Everyone is invited, no matter their gender, age, race, sexuality, abilities, culture or religion.
