Nominate to the NHVic Board

Are you passionate about community development and strengthening the Neighbourhood House sector?

Do you want to make a difference beyond your own community?

If you answered 'yes' to these questions, it's time to nominate to the NHVic Board.

Nominations open Monday 3 October 2022.

As a committee member, it’s important that your decisions are made based on what is best interest of NHVic and for the entire sector. The duty to act in the best interests of the Neighbourhood Houses Victoria overrides any duties you may have to your Neighbourhood House, to particular groups/networks, or people.

For more information, please see the Duties Guide

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive Board which reflects the makeup of our sector. We encourage nominations from people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, people with lived experience of disability, people from culturally diverse backgrounds and those who identify as LGBTIQ to nominate.

How do I nominate?

Complete the NHVic Board nomination form and submit it via email to the Elections Returning Officer, Cameron MacRae, at [email protected].

To complete the form, you will need a:

  • Nominator: The Nominator must be from a NHVic full membership organisation. They can be from the same organisation as the nominee, or a different one.
  • Seconder: The Seconder must be from a different NHVic full membership organisation to the Nominator.

Timeframes

  • Nominations open: Monday 3 October
  • Nominations close: Friday 28 October, 11.59pm
  • Online ballot opens*: Thursday 3 November
  • Online ballot closes*: Thursday 17 November, 5pm
  • AGM - newly elected Board members announced: Thursday 24 November

*This year the Board has 3 vacancies to fill. An election will only occur if we receive more than 3 nominations.

Will there be an election?

An election will only occur if the nominations we receive exceeds the number of vacancies (3).

Only organisations with a Full Membership have voting rights.

The election is conducted via an online ballot emailed directly to full members.

Voting will be one vote per membership i.e. one vote per house; and in the case of networks, one vote per network. In the event of duplicate votes, both will be discarded.

When will the newly elected Board members be announced?

They will be announced at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday 25 November (more information TBC).

I'm considering nominating but I have some questions. Who should I contact?

No worries! If you have any questions about the role of the Board and what's involved in being a Board member, contact Keir Paterson, Neighbourhood Houses Victoria CEO, at [email protected]

If you have any questions about the process for nominating to the Board and the election, contact Cameron MacRae, Elections Returning Officer, at [email protected]

We appreciate the ongoing support of the Victorian State Government.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Victoria. We pay our respects to their spirits, ancestors, elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members past, present and emerging.

Neighbourhood Houses combat social isolation and loneliness by being accessible, non-threatening and inclusive spaces that welcome people from all walks of life. Everyone is invited, no matter their gender, age, race, sexuality, abilities, culture or religion.
