Walks for Carers | Neighbourhood Carers Club

Walks for Carers invites carers of people with disability, mental illness or aged person a chance attend free walking events in your local neighbourhood, to connect with other carers and learn about the supports available. This state-wide program is led by Neighbourhood Houses Victoria’s Neighbourhood Carers Club. Each walking group is led by carers for carers. It’s what makes our program unique!

  • These free monthly events are hosted throughout Victoria by various local Neighbourhood Houses.
  • Walking groups often use an accessible local trail.
  • The event usually concludes at a local neighbourhood house where walkers will have the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker and share a complimentary morning tea.

For questions, including how set up a walk in your local neighbourhood contact Michelle, the NHVic Carers Project Coordinator: [email protected]

A community approach to acknowledging unpaid carers

Unpaid carers save the federal government almost $78 billion per year.   Yet, these carers often sacrifice their own wellbeing to ensure the person they love is well cared for.  Kristine Rawlinson, Carers Project Manager at Neighbourhood Houses Victoria, believes that existing carer supports are missing the mark.

We appreciate the ongoing support of the Victorian State Government.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Victoria. We pay our respects to their spirits, ancestors, elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members past, present and emerging.

Neighbourhood Houses combat social isolation and loneliness by being accessible, non-threatening and inclusive spaces that welcome people from all walks of life. Everyone is invited, no matter their gender, age, race, sexuality, abilities, culture or religion.
