What to expect

This three-part training program will focus on ways your organisation can meet Child Safe Standards 1 and 2, and establish a culturally safe environment at every level for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

You must be available for all three sessions to participate.

The first two hour session is suitable for all members of your organisation and runs for two hours online. You will receive an overview of the worldviews, culture, generational trauma and history that need to be incorporated in your practices.

The second session will run for one hour, and take a deeper look at the prejudices and privilege created by racism. This session can be quite emotional but is essential to help you understand the importance of the work.

The final two hour session will look at the practical implementation of the training.

Please complete the compulsory pre-training materials:

Before attending the first session:

In order to make sure attendees are able to appreciate and absorb the information shared, we ask that you ensure all participants complete the following prior to training:

  1. Watch In My Blood It Runs (2019)
    See viewing options

  2. Make sure you're familiar with the new Child Safe Standards, and the importance of the changes
See the new Child Safe Standards here

  3. Have an understanding of Reconcilliation Action Plan (RAP) Framework
    Get more information

  4. Ensure you have a map of Aboriginal Australia and an acknowledgement of country displayed
    Map of Indigenous Australia (AIATSIS)

  5. Have an understanding of the way racism and white privilege impact all of us
    See these resources for assistance

If you haven't completed these, you may be excluded from the training. These materials are essential in helping you absorb and understand the training provided by Kath.

We appreciate the ongoing support of the Victorian State Government.

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands across Victoria. We pay our respects to their spirits, ancestors, elders and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members past, present and emerging.

Neighbourhood Houses combat social isolation and loneliness by being accessible, non-threatening and inclusive spaces that welcome people from all walks of life. Everyone is invited, no matter their gender, age, race, sexuality, abilities, culture or religion.
