This morning the Minister for Families and Children, Jenny Mikakos MP, visited Glen Eira Adult Learning Centre to announce State Government funding for 11 unfunded neighbourhood houses, and the establishment of 16 new neighbourhood houses.

Each of these neighbourhood houses will receive funding for up to 25 coordination hours per week, which is estimated to deliver up to 50 hours of activities and programs per week for their local community.

12 of the 27 houses are in regional Victoria, including Bendigo, Ballarat, Sale, Nagambie, Charlton and Warrnambool. A total of 10 projects will be in growth areas, such as Melton, Casey, Whittlesea and Wyndham.

This funding is part of the $21.8 million over four years pledge, made by the State Government back in May.

“More neighbourhood houses mean more support for Victorians to do the things they enjoy and care about,” Minister Mikakos said.

“Building local connections is important to people and that’s why we’ve invested $21.8 million in neighbourhood houses right across the state – almost eight times more than the previous Liberal Government.”

Neighbourhood Houses Victoria CEO Nicole Battle welcomed the announcement.

"We're thrilled the Victorian Government is backing neighbourhood houses to thrive and provide more Victorians with the vital services, support and learning opportunities they need to participate in their local community.”

This announcement is the culmination of years of advocacy by NHVic and we want to acknowledge past NHVic CEOs Angela Savage and Bridget Gardner for their valuable contributions towards making this happen.
